Simon and Garfunkel Featured in Bernie Sanders Ad, Ted Nugent Says President Obama and Hillary Clinton Should Be ‘Hung’

Two classic rock artists have become part of the day’s political news cycle.

First, there’s Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, who’s turned to the rousing theme of Simon and Garfunkel‘s “America” for a new ad in advance of the Iowa caucuses. The television spot, which you can watch above, pairs the duo’s 1968 classic with shots of every-day Americans at work and cheering crowds at Sanders’ campaign events. (Iowa’s first-in-the-nation voting takes place 11 days from now, as the campaign for a successor to President Barack Obama gets underway.)

Then there’s Ted Nugent, who resides on the other end of the political spectrum. He’s taken to Facebook with a call for Hillary Clinton, another Democratic presidential candidate, and Obama to be “tried for treason and hung” because of their alleged inaction after terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya. He also linked to an article from the author of Dark Forces: The Truth About What Happened in Benghazi, who claims Clinton, while serving as secretary of state, halted rescue attempts. Four Americans were killed in Benghazi in 2012, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.

“What sort of chimpass punk would deny security, turn down 61 requests for security, then tell U.S. forces to stand down when they were ready to kick ass on the allapukes & save American lives!” Nugent wrote on Facebook. “Obama and Clinton, that’s who. They should be tried for treason and hung. Our entire f—ed up government must be cleansed, ASAP.”

An ardent critic of the current administration, Nugent has previously thrown his support in the upcoming race to Republican candidate Donald Trump. Jackson Browne, David Crosby and the Doors‘ John Densmore are among those who have endorsed Sanders.
