Paul McCartney was reportedly denied access to a Grammy after-party last night. According to TMZ, the music legend — who was apparently hanging out with Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and Beck — was turned away at the door of a party thrown by rapper Tyga.

TMZ reports that the group tried two separate times to get into the after-party, which was being held at the Argyle club in Hollywood. Apparently, after being denied entrance by security the second time, McCartney said, “How VIP do we gotta get? We need another hit.”

McCartney and crew then headed to another after-party, this one hosted by Republic Records, and had no problem getting in.

You’d think the former Beatle would have more hip-hop cred these days, seeing that his only two nominations this year were for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for the Kanye West collaboration “All Day.” He lost to Kendrick Lamar, whose excellent “Alright” won in both categories.

Lamar’s performance of that song was a highlight of the show, which also featured tributes to Glenn Frey (by Jackson Browne and the surviving Eagles), David Bowie (by Lady Gaga) and Lemmy Kilmister (by the Alice Cooper-fronted Hollywood Vampires).

For the most part, classic rockers walked away empty handed after last night’s Grammys, with only a handful of veteran musicians — Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, among them — snagging statues.
