Vince Neil Thinks ‘Young Country Is Really the New Rock ‘n’ Roll’

By his own admission, Vince Neil was a little slow to warm up to the idea of a Motley Crue tribute album recorded by some of today’s biggest country stars. Now he’s a fan, though — not just of the record, but of the genre in general.

Neil was on hand at this year’s CMT Country Music Awards, and he discussed his newfound enthusiasm for Nashville during an interview after the ceremony. In the exchange, which you can watch via the video embedded at the top of the post, Neil compares what’s happening in country today with what he sees as a lack of action on the rock front. “There’s really no up-and-coming rock and roll,” he lamented. “Young country is really the new rock and roll. That’s what’s pretty exciting — you see guys with long hair and guitars. It’s pretty cool.”

Tapping into that market was a primary reason for participating in ‘Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute to Motley Crue,’ according to bassist Nikki Sixx. “We did not make this record for Motley Crue fans, but for country fans who are also rock fans,” he explained in a press release for the compilation, due Aug. 19. “I believe that there’s going to be a lot of synergy and excitement for Motley Crue fans hearing different artists covering their favorite songs. People will be surprised how these artists made the songs their own and we couldn’t be happier with how the album turned out. It’s been an amazing, positive experience and, as a lot of things we’ve done, a first in our career.”
