Velvet Revolver Cover Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ at Reunion Show
It’s the first time the band performed together since singer Scott Weiland departed in 2008. The group, which also features Guns N’ Roses alumni Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, agreed to perform at the benefit concert to honor the late composer John O’Brien, who was the best friend of VR guitarist Dave Kushner.
It’s not the first time Velvet Revolver have covered Pink Floyd; they contributed a cover of ‘Money‘ to the soundtrack of the 2003 film ‘The Italian Job.’ The band also performed their own songs ‘Sucker Train Blues,’ ‘She Builds Quick Machines’ and ‘Slither’ during the brief set. Sheryl Crow, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and Stephen Stills were also slated to appear at the event.
As to whether this show will lead to more Weiland / Velvet Revolver activity — the band never has found a replacement singer, despite several well-publicized searches — Kushner reportedly told Rolling Stone after the concert, “We haven’t played together in four years, and so we’re really just like, ‘Let’s see how this goes.'”
