'American Idol' returns Wednesday (Jan. 18) and Thursday with a two-night season premiere, and in advance of that momentous TV event 'Idol' judge Steven Tyler is doing the promotional rounds. First up is an appearance on Tuesday's (Jan. 17) episode of 'The Ellen Degeneres Show,' where the Aerosmith singer will sit down for a chat.

'I love Aerosmith!" Ellen raves in a promotional clip posted for Tyler's appearance. "My momma used to sing me to sleep every night, she would sing 'Livin' on the Edge' and I would just conk right out." Which is kind of weird, seeing that Ellen was in her 30's when that Aerosmith hit came out, but we won't get into that.

Expect Tyler to definitely talk about the new season of 'Idol' and his recent engagement to longtime girlfriend Erin Brody -- and hopefully reward 'Smith fans who watch the show by dishing a little dirt on their next album, which is expected sometime this year.

If nothing else, Ellen and Steven can always talk about their common love of Oprah Winfrey. Tyler was the first-ever guest on Oprah's new show 'Oprah's Next Chapter' earlier this month, and since then he has says they have become texting buddies. Ellen herself has some history with the talk show queen: it was during a 1997 appearance on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' that Ellen came out as a lesbian, in advance of her TV character on the sitcom 'Ellen' doing the same thing.

Catch Tyler on 'Idol' on Wednesday (Jan. 18) and Thursday (Jan. 19) at 8PM ET/PT.
