There's a good reason why Steven Tyler kept his famous lips sealed regarding his engagement to longtime girlfriend Erin Brady over the Christmas holidays -- he was saving the big reveal for after his appearance on Oprah Winfrey's new TV show, 'Oprah’s Next Chapter. The Aerosmith singer was the featured celebrity Sunday night (Jan. 1) on a special two-hour series premiere edition of the show on Oprah's OWN network.

During the appearance, Tyler walked discussed his past womanizing ways, sitting and holding hands with Brady while Oprah asked some tough questions. The two seem to have a solid relationship now, but Tyler admits things weren't always fairy-tale perfect and that early on he tended to fall back into his womanizing ways. "There was some behavior I am ashamed of and I shouldn't have done," he told Oprah.

When asked point blank of he could remain faithful to his new fiance, Tyler didn't hesitate to say that he could: "I don't want to hurt anybody again. For all the divorces I've had I've hurt those girls deeply ... I don't want to hurt another human being."

He also discussed his past drug abuse, with Oprah not holding back in the slightest. “May I just say ... I am surprised you are still alive,” Winfrey told Tyler, to which he replied, “It used to be cool to hear that, now it kinda hurts."

Other subjects touched on included the difficulty in maintaining good relations with his Aerosmith band mates, the death of his father, his newfound fame as a judge on 'American Idol' and his daughter Mia, who turns up on camera long enough to say she forgave her father for abandoning her as a child.

The interview was filmed at Tyler's gorgeous lakeside mansion in Sunapee, New Hampshire, and Steven gave Oprah a tour of the palatial grounds, driving her around in a vintage car and taking a walk in the woods. At one point, Oprah pets some moss on a rock and, in a bizarre moment, says, “This is beauty to me."

Tyler and Brady stopped short of confirming their engagement during the show (perhaps because they probably weren't engaged yet -- the show was taped back in September), but today (Jan. 2) a rep for Tyler finally has stated reports of the pending nuptials are indeed true. Congratulation, Steven!
