After spending time on tour with Kiss and Def Leppard last summer, Canadian hard rockers Kobra and the Lotus are paying tribute to several other rock legends with their latest release.

Appropriately, they stayed close to home when coming up with the song list. Ultimate Classic Rock is pleased to present the exclusive premiere of Kobra and the Lotus’ version of the Rush classic “The Spirit of Radio,” taken from the upcoming Words of the Prophets EP, due Aug. 28.

The title of the EP is a direct lyrical reference taken from “The Spirit of Radio,” of course, and frontwoman Kobra Paige says it was a thrill to have a chance to record the song.

“There’s no prouder moment than to take on the challenge of covering one of the greatest bands of all time,” she says. “Few bands have accomplished what Rush has accomplished, and there will never be another band like them. They opened the door and shaped the way for all musicians to be more creative and brave with their music – and they did it with unrelenting confidence and skill. It is with great honor and respect that we reinforce the message of these virtuosic music monsters and the importance of ‘The Spirit of Radio.’”

Words of the Prophets also features their spin on other Canadian-based classics including “Lay It On the Line” by Triumph, “Sign of the Gypsy Queen” by April Wine and Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s “Let It Ride,” among others.

Kobra and the Lotus are currently on tour in the U.S. supporting the new EP and will continue to play shows following its release.
