Guitar great Jimi Hendrix would have celebrated his 70th birthday on Nov. 27. Unfortunately the talented musician passed away in 1970 from asphyxiation.

Considering that he only recorded three studio albums -- 'Are You Experienced,' 'Axis: Bold as Love,' and 'Electric Ladyland' -- and one live album -- 'Band of Gypsys' -- before his death, the wealth of great music speaks to the promise that Hendrix held.

Songs such as 'Purple Haze,' 'Foxy Lady,' 'Hey Joe,' 'All Along the Watchtower,' 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)' and 'Fire' remain classics to this day.
