For the second time this season, and by our unofficial count the bajillionth time ever on a reality signing competition, Janis Joplin's 'Piece of My Heart' was trotted out on 'X Factor' last night by Marcus Canty.

It was barely over a month ago that an auditioning contestant performed 'Heart' on the show, but apparently there's no "double jeopardy" rule in play, as Canty began his performance with that famous "come on, come on, come on" opening line while writhing around a flame-covered stage.

It was quite a visual spectacle, Canty is a fine singer and a charismatic performer, and the back-up gospel-style singers were also a nice touch. The judges took a break from their staged "witty" arguments with each other to agree that the guy did great, and it seems he's got a good shot of winning this entire competition.

Of course, we won't know for a long long time, because this entire two-hour program, and the hour that will air tonight, serve just to eliminate one more of the 10 remaining contestants. It's a painfully slow and needlessly drawn out process, as there's still much dead weight up on stage every episode.

So, just to put this offer out there: We could pair this thing down to three singers, tops, in a real hurry if any of the producers are like us and looking to get this thing over with.
