Janis Joplin’s ‘Piece of My Heart’ Butchered By Ashley Sansone on ‘X Factor’

Ashley Sansone

Janis Joplin’s ‘Piece of My Heart’ got dragged through the mud one more time last night on ‘X Factor,’ with Ashley Sansone delivering a ragged, off-key and largely unlistenable rendition of the song in an ill-fated attempt to earn a spot on the show.

To be fair, her performance of the old break-up warhorse song was probably no worse than the one you might be subjected to from some slightly tipsy and recently dumped woman should you visit a karaoke bar tonight.

The damage done to the musical soul of our country, though, was greatly magnified by the fact that this was all broadcast into millions of homes via the new and presumably popular TV show starring ex-‘American Idol’ judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul.

Sansone started off on the wrong foot right from the start, talking a mile a minute about how she was a “pop tart” and that she spent her rent money to get to the audition and…. we tuned out, to be honest. Then, the real horror started with her performance, which you can see if you want, below. Judge L.A. Reid summed it all up pretty well when he said that Sansone got on his nerves with her talking, but that her singing made him want to slit his wrists.
