Journey and the Doobie Brothers started their summer tour last night in Irvine, Calif., debuting lineup changes and new set lists for the series of concerts they've dubbed San Francisco Fest 2016.

With Dave Mason opening, both bands delivered sets stacked with songs from their deep catalogs. The Doobie Brothers, now touring with Little Feat keyboardist Bill Payne as part of the live lineup, continued their recent trend of making room for deeper cuts — the older songs "Another Park, Another Sunday," "Eyes of Silver," "Spirit" and "Sweet Maxine" all made appearances alongside more obvious choices like "Jesus Is Just Alright" and "Rockin' Down the Highway."

Journey, meanwhile, hit the road this summer with drummer Steve Smith back in the fold. Guitarist Neal Schon recently predicted a more uptempo set for the group this summer, pointing to Smith's return as a reason for returning to songs like the Departure track "Line of Fire" — which did indeed make an appearance at Irvine, along with the traditional assortment of Journey hits like "Any Way You Want It" and "Lights" as well as a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll."
