Chris Cornell is giving fans their first taste of his new solo album, Higher Truth, with the release of the first single, "Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart."

The song, which is available as an instant download with digital pre-orders through Amazon or iTunes, is also streaming at Apple Music, with other services presumably soon to follow.

Higher Ground, set for release Sept. 18, marks Cornell's first solo outing since 2009's Scream, which was followed by his reunion with Soundgarden, the band's subsequent tours, and the release of their King Animal LP in 2012. The new album finds Cornell working with producer Brendan O'Brien, whose association with the singer dates back to his work behind the mixing board for Soundgarden's 1994 release Superunknown.

Shortly after Higher Ground arrives, Cornell is scheduled to embark on an acoustic solo tour, which begins Sept. 20 in Los Angeles and currently concludes Nov. 2 in Austin. One dollar from the cost of every ticket will be sent to the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to protecting "the most vulnerable children facing problems such as homelessness, poverty, abuse or neglect."
