Vicky Cornell, widow of late Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, announced a vigil ceremony to mark the first anniversary of his death.

He died on May 18, 2017, and will be remembered at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on the same date this year, starting at 7PM. In a statement, Vicky asked fans from all around the world to join the attendees in spirit.

“Chris was loved, so much, by so many. The children and I are so grateful to you all for being by our sides throughout all of this,” she wrote. “Your love has created a close-knit community, more like a family, to grieve with, to provide support and to help us heal. We could not have gotten through these last 12 months without you. ... We want to open this up to you, our extended family, and invite you to join us on this day of prayer and remembrance to pay our respects together.

“As we know, there are millions of fans and not everyone can physically be there. We would be honored if you share posts and videos of how Chris’ music has touched you. We can feel your love no matter how far. Light a candle, say a prayer, speak his name. … Loud Love.”

Earlier this year, Vicky took part in her first TV interview since her husband’s death, repeating her assertion that prescription drugs had played a role in what was ruled to be a suicide.

“My husband was the furthest thing from a rock-star junkie. He just wasn't," she said. "He was the best husband, the greatest father. I lost my soulmate and the love of my life. … He wanted to be there for his family, for his children. He loved his life ... he would never have ever left this world. I don't think that he could make any decisions because of the level of impairment."
