Ace Frehley Announces Upcoming Covers Project

Something must have clicked for Ace Frehley while recording a new take on Steve Miller Band‘s ‘The Joker’ for his upcoming studio effort. The former Kiss guitarist is already announcing a new collection of covers and remixes — before ‘Space Invader,’ his first solo album since 2009, even arrives.

“That will be out next year,” Frehley tells “The songs are already written, so it is faster and easier for me to make that record.”

He’s bringing a group of famous friends along for these sessions, too. “I will get guest stars like Lita Ford, Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, Slash,” Frehley adds. “It is an easier record to make since I don’t have much to do. The big stress is coming up with new guitar solos and vocals lines and melodies on new songs.”

Frehley’s biggest hit, of course, was a cover song. “New York Groove,” a No. 13 solo smash in 1978, was earlier recorded by the glam-rockers Hello. Frehley has also updated “Do Ya” by ELO, among many others. ‘Space Invader,’ meanwhile, is due on August 19 in North America via eOne Music, with a European release date of August 18. Included are 11 original tracks, along with the Miller Band cover.
