The ear-melting riff that opens 'Burn' -- Iggy Pop and the Stooges' new single -- makes it clear that this is no nostalgia act. Not only do these guys still have their edge, four decades after their crunchy punk rock classic of a debut, you could argue that 'Burn' is all edge.

The Iggy and the Stooges album 'Raw Power' turns 40 this month, and the group is also planning a new release. Iggy Pop, James Williamson and Scott Asheton have united to record 'Ready to Die,' their second album featuring the surviving members of that lineup. (2007's 'The Weirdness' featured the surviving members of the Ron Asheton-fronted Stooges lineup.)

Original Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton passed away in 2009, but his dynamic playing and presence has not been forgotten. On April 19, 2011, his former bandmates held a tribute concert to honor his legacy and music. A DVD from that night, appropriately titled 'Tribute to Ron Asheton,' is now making its way to DVD on June 4 via MVD.

The reunion of the Stooges is about to result in its second album. Although no release date has been announced, we have learned that the legendary protopunk band have finished 'Ready to Die,' the follow-up to 'The Weirdness,' their comeback album 2007.

Dave Alexander, who joined Iggy Pop and the Asheton brothers to form the Stooges in 1967, died at the far too young age of 27 in 1975 of pneumonia and an inflamed pancreas.

Iggy and The Stooges ‘Raw Power: Live In The Hands Of Fans’ was filmed by six fans in the audience, with handheld cameras during the 2010 ‘All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival’ in Monticello, N.Y. The six lucky filmmakers were selected through an online fan contest so the video is shot like a bootleg, yet it’s not.

Iggy Pop and the Stooges have rescheduled their west coast concerts after Iggy broke his foot in Romania on Aug. 27. The shows originally scheduled for September have been postponed until later this year.

The Stooges have been forced to postpone an upcoming west coast U.S. tour after Iggy Pop broke two bones in his left foot. The singer sustained the damage while performing Aug. 27 at the Peninsula festival in Romania, and doctors have ordered him to rest up and refrain from hitting the stage for six to eight weeks.
