One of rock's most revered guitarists is pitted against one of the most subversive and popular groups of the '60s as Jeff Beck battles Jefferson Airplane in round one of June's UCR Hall of Fame voting.

Each month, our readers will determine which of eight legendary artists or bands is immortalized forever for their contributions to classic rock history.

It is unlikely that any musician will surpass Beck's contributions in the field of instrumental rock albums, to say nothing of his time in the Yardbirds or together with Rod Stewart and Ron Wood in the Jeff Beck Group. A quick run through our list of the Top 10 Jeff Beck Songs should demonstrate pretty clearly why he's worthy of our highest honors.

Jefferson Airplane -- and yes, feel free to count their time as Jefferson Starship and Starship either for or against them -- crafted two of the defining songs of the '60s peace, love and drugs movement in 'Someone to Love' and 'White Rabbit.' As you can see from our list of the Top 10 Jefferson Airplane Songs, the story hardly stopped there.  Who knows, if we had taken their lyrics more to heart, the world might be a better place today.

Both Beck and Jefferson Airplane have great resumes, but only one gets to move onto the next round and the choice is fully yours. Readers can vote once a day from now until 11:59PM ET on June 16. You can read the Hall of Fame’s official rules right here. Be sure to mark your calendars for July 1, when the third entrant into the Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame is revealed.
