Ending out our October, just one day shy of Halloween, is Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick, a formative figure in groups such as The Great Society, Jefferson Starship and Starship.

Over the years Slick's place in rock 'n' roll has been cemented by the successes of nearly every band she's been a part of, not to mention the imprint she left in the development of psychedelic rock in the '60s.

After becoming popular in the Bay area with the Great Society -- honing a psychedelic act -- Slick joined Jefferson Airplane and went from being a star in the San Francisco scene to being known the world over.

While she's since sober and retired -- aside from the occasional reunion tour and/or concert appearance -- Slick's career has shifted into the realm of visual arts, drawing and painting.
