ZZ Top Cancels Alabama Show Due to Stage Hazards

ZZ Top
Mary Ouellette,

ZZ Top’s ‘Gang of Outlaws’ tour was scheduled to roll into the Wind Creek Hotel and Casino Amphitheater in Atmore, Ala. over the weekend (June 9) but when they arrived onsite and surveyed the stage set up the ‘Tres Hombres’ decided that due to the safety for all those involved, they would have to cancel the show.

The band issued the following statement about their safety concerns and the reason they had to cancel the show, much to their disappointment:

“We’re definitely from ‘the show must go on’ school but had to draw the line this time when we found out that numerous hazards were present at the venue. We couldn’t, in good conscience, do the show knowing that the safety for those on and off stage would be in jeopardy. We had hoped the situation would have been addressed and corrected by show time but, sadly, that wasn’t the case so we just had to ‘pull the plug’ for the sake of all concerned. We hope our fans and friends understand that the decision that was made was the only one we could abide in light of those conditions.”

Tourmates 3 Doors Down, also impacted by the cancellation, told fans that there was a “significant risk of a potential stage collapse” at the venue.

The summer concert season seems to bring on a bevy of concerns over safe stage set ups and bravo to ZZ Top and 3 Doors Down for recognizing the issue in advance and protecting the safety of everyone involved.

Just last July Cheap Trick had a stage scare of their own at the Ottawa Bluesfest. The stage collapsed after a sudden storm took over, sending several people to the hospital.

ZZ Top and 3 Doors Down’s Gang of Outlaws tour continues through the end of June, check out the remaining dates here and our exclusive photos from the tour kick off on Manchester, N.H. here.
