Todd Rundgren’s reunited band Utopia have issued a public invitation to any keyboardist who wants to join them on their upcoming tour. The successful candidate will replace Ralph Schuckett, who’s suffering “unexpected health issues,” and will join Rundgren, Kasim Sulton and Willie Wilcox on the road. But your window to apply for the job is short, with the first show scheduled for April 18.

“While discussing a replacement keyboardist, it occurred to us that there may be someone out there who already knows the music and vocal parts and would like an opportunity to tour with us,” the band said via a statement on Sulton’s Facebook page. “So if you think you could fill those big shoes, we invite you to submit an audio and/or video sample to us.

“We are on a very fast track, so the decision will be made this week. Band rehearsals begin in 2 weeks, so you won’t have a lot of time to learn the set. If you still want to try out, send your submissions (mp3s or links) to info@panacea-ent.com. If audio-only, a photo would be nice but not required. Good luck!”

Rundgren has staged a series of irregular reunions with Utopia members since 2011, with Sulton and Shuckett having made a number of appearances. The bandleader last year released a solo album entitled White Knight, which features guest spots from Joe Satriani, Donald Fagen, Joe Walsh, Trent Reznor and Daryl Hall. “I live in the island of Kauai [Hawaii], and as a result, most of the records that I’ve made in recent years have been, uh, all me,” Rundgren told the Morning Call. “it’s just too difficult to have people drop by for a session. So it’s just easier to make the records myself. But it felt like I was getting into something of an echo chamber, so I decided I would collaborate more on the record.”
