That’s right. It’s Bruce Springsteen! This picture isn’t from his yearbook, but it’s cropped from a promo shot of his first band, the Castiles. Still, it was taken in May 1966, a year before he graduated Freehold (N.J.) Regional High School. So given that he once declared that “we learned more from a three-minute record than we ever learned in school,” it might as well be his yearbook photo, right?

And while the Castiles would only last a few years after this picture was taken, he would soon go on to front a series of bands on the Jersey Shore before signing to Columbia Records as a solo act in May 1972. Needing a back-up band for his debut album, he handpicked a bunch of his friends and formed the E Street Band. Apart from a seven-year hiatus in the late-‘80s to mid-‘90s and a folk music project in 2005, they’ve been together ever since.
