Yes, it's Chrissie Hynde, leader of the Pretenders, by our vote the biggest rock star to emerge from UCR's adopted hometown of Arkon, Ohio -- also home to Devo and the Black Keys, among others.

This 1969 photo comes from the Firestone High School Yearbook. A few years later she moved to London, and became a music writer for a while. Then, after bouncing around the world and forming various bands, in 1979 she burst onto the global music scene with the Pretenders' self-titled debut and the smash hits 'Brass in Pocket' and 'Stob Your Sobbing.'

Since then she's proven to be one of the most fiercely independent and enduring artists in popular music. She's also a highly committed animal rights activist, clearly not afraid to get arrested to fight for what she believes in. We'd also like to say that we still miss her fantastic restaurant the VegiTerranean very much!
