For much of his career, Van Morrison's approach to recording and singing has often seemed more like that of a jazz musician than a rock n' roller. So it makes sense that his upcoming album, 'Born to Sing: No Plan B,' will be released October 2 on Blue Note Records, one of the most celebrated labels in jazz history.

Don Was, the Grammy-winning producer (Bonnie Raitt, the Rolling Stones) who is now the president of Blue Note, is thrilled to have the legendary singer-songwriter on his label. "Over a career that spans decades, Van Morrison has developed a body of work that is unparalleled in its consistent excellence," Was said in a press release. "He is one of the greatest singer/songwriter/musicians of all time. We are incredibly honored that he has chosen to record for the Blue Note label and look forward to many fruitful years together."

For Morrison, who is famously not prone to expressions of joy, the feeling is mutual. "With most record companies being so corporate I am happy to be working with Don Was and the team at Blue Note," he said. "To have such a creative music person as the head of my recording label assures me that all the effort taken to write and record this new album will be rewarded with a music-based focus and marketing approach.  I look forward to many recording projects with Don and Blue Note."

Produced by Morrison, 'Born to Sing: No Plan B' was recorded in Morrison's hometown of Belfast, Northern Ireland. This is Morrison's second stint on Blue Note, having released 'What’s Wrong With This Picture?' on the label in 2003.
