U2 and Def Leppard square off against each other in the semifinals of the 100 percent fan-voted Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame.

In the first round. U2 defeated Ozzy Osbourne, 53-47 percent. The Irish rockers, who came out of the New Wave scene, are currently prepping a new album. Although they have been trying to keep the details a secret, there are rumors that it will arrive in September, and one of its tracks has already leaked.

Def Leppard, who are part of a different New Wave scene -- the New Wave of British Heavy Metal -- took care of their friends Iron Maiden by a similar percentage, with just less than 55 percent of the vote. The are wrapping up a tour with Kiss, and are considering another Las Vegas residency, although that most likely won't happen until late 2015.

Despite their musical and lyrical differences, their paths to stardom were similar. Both bands released their debuts in 1980 and built their fan base over the next few years. Interestingly enough, their biggest albums arrived in the same years: 1983 ('War' and 'Pyromania') and 1987 ('The Joshua Tree' and 'Hysteria'). And U2's 'Achtung Baby' and Def Leppard's 'Adrenalize' were released just a few months apart between 1991 and 1992.

So who will move on to the finals? Well, that's where you come in. You can vote once an hour until the polls close on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 11:59PM EST. This month's inductee will be announced on Sept. 2. Be sure to read our official contest rules.
