The first batch of 2015 Grammy nominees has been announced, and both Tom Petty and U2 have made the list. They're competing for Best Rock Album.

Petty and the Heartbreakers' 'Hypnotic Eye' and U2's 'Songs of Innocence' go up against Ryan Adams' latest, self-titled album, Beck's 'Morning Phase' and the Black Keys' 'Turn Blue' in the category.

The Best Metal Performance category was also announced, and includes songs by Anthrax, Mastodon, Motorhead, Slipknot and Tenacious D.

Other categories announced include Record of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Country Album, among a few others. More categories will be announced later. None of the  categories announced so far includes rock artists, unless Bastille count.

The only other rock-oriented nominee list, for Best Rock Song, includes cuts by Beck, the Black Keys, Ryan Adams and Jack White.

The 2015 Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on Feb. 8 on CBS.
