The Who and the Guess Who are set to do battle in the first round of the second-ever Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame election. Each month, our readers will determine which of eight legendary artists or bands is immortalized forever for their contributions to classic rock history.

As we point out in the introduction to our Top 10 Who Songs list, The Who were far from the only '60s band to evolve from rocked-out R&B covers to more complex long-form works -- they simply did it better than almost anyone else. As a result, their legacy includes everything from immortal singles such as 'Can't Explain' and 'My Generation' to groundbreaking concept albums like 'Quadrophenia' and 'Tommy.'

The Guess Who's rise to fame began in their home country of Canada in the mid-'60s, and their 1969 single 'These Eyes' kicked off a string of worldwide hits that included 'American Woman,' 'No Time' and 'No Sugar Tonight / New Mother Nature' -- check out our Top 10 Guess Who Songs list here. The group also helped introduce future Bachman-Turner Overdrive frontman Randy Bachman to the world.
