The Doors clearly carved out their place in rock 'n' roll history with the release of six great albums, starting with their classic self-titled debut in 1967.

But the unfortunate death of singer Jim Morrison at the age of 27 in 1971 locked in their legacy once and for all. Without their frontman, the Doors didn't last long. But in the short time that they were around, the band managed to become one of the most popular groups of the late '60s.

And they're still hugely popular. In 2002, the Doors were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, nine years after being voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
