In the more than 40 years since their breakup, the Beatles have always used their hand-picked team of insiders to tell the story of the legendary group. However, for the first time, a new documentary will rely heavily on material submitted by their fans.

Earlier today (Nov. 15), the Beatles announced the beginning of ‘The Beatles Live! Project’ via their Facebook page. The film is being produced by OVOW Productions with the blessing of the Fab Four’s company, Apple. According to the press release, their “ultimate goal” is “to combine footage, images, music interviews, and stories in a definitive, emotional and visceral feature film about Beatlemania.”

OVOW is looking exclusively for material from the period between October 1963, when the term “Beatlemania” was first coined, to their final concert proper at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park on August 29, 1966. This can range from personal stories to photographs to audio recordings, with an emphasis on rare or never-before-seen footage. The producers will choose the best submissions for inclusion in the film.

Their team of researchers, archivists and experts will be working on the project through December 2012. If you have anything to contribute, or want to learn more about the project, you can visit their website.
