Jack Black's comedic rock band Tenacious D will be working hard this summer, with 28 shows planned worldwide, beginning in late May. Yesterday, the duo announced new dates on their official website, and tickets for many of the stops go on sale Friday and Saturday (March 30 and 31).

Black and Kyle Gass are also planning to release their third studio album this Spring. 'Rise of the Fenix' will be available on May 15. Fans can listen to the title track in advance at the Tenacious D website. The song, which at times treads heavily on Who territory, hints at the autobiographical nature of the project:

"When 'The Pick of Destiny' was released it was a bomb / And all the critics said that the D was done," Black sings over a gentle acoustic guitar that soon explodes into the band's famously bodacious brand of rock 'n' roll. He's referring to the ambitious 2006 movie in which he and Gass try to become the world's greatest rock band.

You can witness the story of how Tenacious D rose from the dead with their just-released short film 'To Be the Best.' 'Rize of the Fenix' is now available for pre-order at iTunes and Amazon.
