Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel was the singer of Genesis from 1966 through 1975, the era marked by onstage theatrics and 25-minute songs about flowers and lawnmowers. (When he left for a solo career, drummer Phil Collins took over vocals, and the group became one of the '80s' biggest.) From 1977 to 1982, Gabriel released four solo albums, all titled 'Peter Gabriel.' In 1986, he released 'So,' which sold more than five million copies and spawned the hit singles 'Sledgehammer' and 'In Your Eyes.' The follow-up LP, 1992's 'Us,' reached No. 2. In between, he scored the movie 'The Last Temptation of Christ.' An active political voice and world-music champion, Gabriel helped finance the World of Music Arts and Dance (WOMAD) festival
