Stream Steven Tyler’s New Duet with Smokey Robinson on ‘You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me’

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler is joining Smokey Robinson on a new version of the Motown legend's 1962 hit 'You've Really Got a Hold on Me,' streaming above. The duet is part of an all-star collaborative album appropriately titled 'Smokey and Friends.'

Tyler isn't the first rocker to make a run at this track. The Beatles also memorably covered it in 1963, with John Lennon handling the vocal, with the song's title slightly modified to 'You Really Got a Hold on Me.'

Still, before now, Aerosmith's most notable recorded connection with Motown was a co-writing credit for Holland–Dozier–Holland -- one of the label's most prominent songwriting combos -- on 'The Other Side' from their 1989 album 'Pump.' Motown sued because of a noticeable similarity with the earlier hit 'Standing in the Shadows of Love.'

'Smokey and Friends' is due Aug. 19 on Verve Records. Tyler is joined on the project by fellow guests James Taylor ('Ain’t That Peculiar'), Elton John ('The Tracks of My Tears,' which you can stream here), and Sheryl Crow ('The Tears Of A Clown'), among others.
