Starship featuring Mickey Thomas will return with a new album in 2013. The frontman says 'Loveless Fascination' feels like a '70s record -- "organic, with a real edge to it." Decide for yourself with this exclusive first listen to 'It's Not the Same as Love,' an Ultimate Classic Rock premiere.

Heavy guitars and Thomas' familiar voice mark the uptempo love song. The album has been years in the making and the frontman says it all came together when they began working with producer and current Foreigner bassist Jeff Pilson.

During an interview with UCR Thomas says the former Dokken star added a new energy and new songs to the project. "He brought a harder edge," Thomas says. "Once he came in, we found our musical direction. He helped us craft something classic, but with modern elements. He had this great collection of songs, and he and I got together and our relationship just clicked. With Jeff’s help, I’ve finally been able to put together a brand-new Starship album with totally new original material. I’m really excited about it.”

Expect an album full of songs about relationships that didn't work out, but also expect an album full of songs with teeth. Even the ballads have grit. The current lineup is the longest-running in the band's history. The album will be released on Loud & Proud records on Sept. 17.
