We've tallied up the votes in the first round of our latest march to the Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame and now you've got a new choice to make: Sammy Hagar or 38 Special?

In the opening round of voting, Hagar defeated the Ramones, crushing the competition with more than 71 percent of the vote. Meanwhile, 38 Special pulled off a surprising upset over Tom Petty, eking out a narrow 51 percent victory. Now the two victors line up against each other, and it’s your job to decide who moves on to the next round.

For a guy whose first impulse usually seems to involve a beverage and the beach, Hagar has carved out an impressively distinguished career, using his distinctive rock 'n' roll howl to power classic records for Montrose, Van Halen, and Chickenfoot, as well as his solo career. In addition, he's one of rock's savvier businessmen, boosting his bottom line with an array of successful interests that includes his Cabo Wabo Cantina and tequila as well as Sammy's Beach Bar Rum, which claims to distill "the spirit of aloha."

Of course, the guys in 38 Special are no slouches either. Formed in 1974 by guitarist Don Barnes and singer Donnie Van Zant, the band added arena-rock polish to its Southern rock roots and emerged with a series of Top 40 hits during the '80s, teaming up with Survivor founder Jim Peterik to write the AOR classics 'Caught Up in You' and 'Hold on Loosely.' Although they've endured their share of lineup changes over the years, Barnes continues to lead the group, which will be back on the road this summer for yet another round of tour dates.

So who makes it to the semifinals of the UCR Hall of Fame competition? That's up to you to decide. You can vote once an hour between now and Sunday, June 22 at 11:59PM Eastern. The next inductee into the Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame will be announced on July 1. Be sure to read our official rules.
