With Sammy Hagar launching his Four Decades of Rock tour this month, we decided to take a look at his best songs from each of those 10-year spans. Shockingly, less than one-fourth of them involve automobiles in any way, shape or form.

To make things even more fun, we included tracks from the various bands the Red Rocker has been a part of — Montrose, HSAS, Van Halen, Chickenfoot — in addition to those from his solo career. The result is a 40-song collection of strong, melodic hard-rock tunes that showcase just how consistently Hagar has expressed his love for life and upbeat, can-do spirit.
