Sammy Hagar Day Celebrated in Roseville, CA
On Saturday. Sept. 15, restauranteur and tequila magnate Sammy Hagar opened up his newest venture – Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar & Grill – in the northern California city of Roseville, and to commemorate the occasion, the town declared a day in honor of Hagar, who is known for his work in Van Halen, Montrose, Chickenfoot and his solo career.
Hagar, who attended the ceremony with his wife, was given an official proclamation, presented to him by Mayor Pauline Roccucci, which honored his 40-year musical career, business efforts and work on behalf of children’s charities. Roccucci also presented him with a book chronicling Roseville’s history and a guitar made by local junior high school students as part of a wood shop program.
“This is an honor to have a key to the city,” Hagar said. “I’m not going to use it. I’m going to keep it and use it like a ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ card in case I leave here late one night.” He also thanked the mayor and the city council members who helped him bring the restaurant to Roseville.
The event helped raise $40,000 for local charities.
