Rockers Ronnie Montrose and Bob Welch were two of the name musicians who died this past year, and sadly both did so by taking their own lives. Initially reports suggested that Montrose passed away in March after a battle with cancer, but in April a family friend issued a statement revealing that the Montrose guitarist died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

Welch, the former Fleetwood Mac guitarist, passed away June 7, also by his own hand. The musician reportedly had undergone an unsuccessful spinal surgery earlier in the year that left him fearing he would be an invalid unable of recovering. He left a note explaining that after watching his mother care for his invalid father for years that he didn't want to do that to his family.
