Roger Waters Adds New Song to ‘The Wall’

Since its release in 1979, Pink Floyd‘s ‘The Wall’ has journeyed all over the world, playing to audiences during numerous tours (and even being turned into a movie). But through all its guises, the album’s song cycle has remained essentially the same — until recently, that is.

Preparing to embark on a 2013 tour of European outdoor venues that he’s dubbing ‘The Wall Open Air,’ Roger Waters sat down in front of the cameras to discuss what makes this year’s jaunt different, and while some of the new ‘Wall’ wrinkles are logistical — “I sometimes get stranded out at one end [of the stage],” he laughs at one point, “‘F—! I’ve got to get back to the middle of the stage in about eight seconds!” — he’s bringing the crowds a modified set of songs, too.

In fact, Waters has added a new song: ‘The Ballad of Jean Charles de Menezes,’ which joined the set list last year during Waters’ American tour. Inspired by the death of a man who was shot by London police after being wrongly identified as one of the perpetrators of a failed bombing attempt, ‘Ballad’ is being performed after ‘Another Brick in the Wall Part II.’ “I love doing that, because it’s a surprise to people,” explains Waters in the video embedded below. “They’ve never heard it before.”
