We've had some great times and wonderful music to celebrate in 2012, but there have been a number of notable deaths in the rock and roll family, too. From prominent members of classic rock bands, to behind-the-scenes movers and shakers, the end of the year gives us a chance to remember the contributions of some historic rockers we've lost in 2012.

Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord is certainly one rocker whose influence will never be forgotten, as is groundbreaking guitarist Ronnie Montrose. Stuart Swanlund of the Marshall Tucker Band will also be remembered for his inimitable slide guitar stylings.

Both Hawkwind and Fleetwood Mac were hit by double losses in their musical families this year, and we also said goodbye to pop rockers Davy Jones and Robin Gibb. And although they weren't recording artists, the influence of TV pioneer Dick Clark and Jim Marshall -- whose amplifiers have become the staple of rock music -- cannot be overestimated.
