Lasting Love: Rock’s Most Enduring Couples
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we have compiled a list shining the spotlight on some of rock n’ roll’s longest lasting married couples.
Even the best marriages can take a lot of work sometimes. Adding the busy schedules and long absences of life on the road can make it uniquely difficult for rock stars — to say nothing of the temptations made available to them. Happily, within this list you will find rock star duos who have beaten the odds and actually stayed together for decades thanks to that little crazy little thing called love.
It’s enough to make you actually feel things. No worries, we’re not judging.
David Bowie and Iman
The shortest wed couple on our list, David Bowie and his supermodel wife Iman are nearing their 25th anniversary after tying the knot in June of 1992. According to Bowie, it was love at first site when he met Iman -- in fact, he immediately began naming their future kids. The duo have even been immortalized together in the Dreamcast 3D game 'Omikron: The Nomad Soul,' for which Bowie created the soundtrack. The couple have one daughter together named Alexandria Zahra Jones, and Iman adopted Bowie's son from a previous marriage: film director Duncan Jones.
Ted Nugent and Shemane Deziel
Ted Nugent married Deziel in January of 1989 after the two met at the Detroit radio station WLLZ-FM where she was on the news staff. The couple have also worked together on the cookbook 'Kill It and Grill It: A Guide to Preparing and Cooking Wild Game and Fish' in 2002. They have one child together, a son intriguingly (but not surprisingly for a hunting-loving couple) named Rocco Winchester Nugent.
Keith Richards and Patti Hansen
Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards met his future model wife Patti Hansen in 1979, but the duo did not exchange vows until December of 1983, on Richards' 40th birthday. They have two daughters together named Theodora and Alexandra. They just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary along with Keith's 70th birthday, at which point Richards credited his wife with keeping him on the "straight and narrow." Awwww.
Dee Snider and Suzette Snider
Dee Snider of Twisted Sister and his wife Suzette have quite an interesting love story, which he retells in his fantastic memoir 'Shut Up and Give Me the Mic.' They met when Suzette was only 15 and Snider was 21, after Suzette snuck into a nightclub in Long Island. Because of their age difference, Snider had to convince her parents that he was a good fit for their daughter. Clearly, time has proven him right. They have four kids together: Jesse Blaze, Shane Royal, Cody Blue and Cheyenne Jean.
Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach
Former Beatles member Ringo Starr met his wife Barbara Bach on the set of the film 'Caveman' in 1980 and they were promptly married in April of 1981. Ringo and the former Bond girl (from 'The Spy Who Loved Me') split their time between their homes in Los Angeles and Monte Carlo. You may have seen Bach most recently alongside her husband in the audience at this year's Grammy Beatles tribute.
Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne
Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath and solo fame and wife Sharon Osbourne have had their very public share of ups and down, but after marrying in July of 1982, they are clearly together for the long haul. Sharon started off as Ozzy's solo manager, and he says if not for her he surely would have died. The couple recently separated due to Ozzy falling off the wagon, but moved back in together and mended fences when Ozzy proved his loyalty by getting sober once again. They have three kids together: Jack, Kelly and Aimee.
Michael Anthony and Sue Anthony
Michael Anthony of Van Halen and Chickenfoot adorably married his high school sweetheart Sue, who he began dating in 1971. The Arcadia High School couple tied the knot ten years later in February 1981 after Sue proposed to Michael at a McDonald's drive-thru. True story. The couple have two daughters together, named Elisha and Taylor.
Angus Young and Ellen Young
AC/DC lead guitarist Angus Young and his wife Ellen clearly value their privacy, so we don't have a lot of stories to share for this one. They reportedly have homes in both Kangaroo Point in Sydney, Australia and in Ellen's native Aalten, Netherlands. They swapped vows and made their relationship official in the government's eyes in 1980.
Neil Young and Pegi Young
Neil Young and Pegi Young joined forces when they tied the knot in 1978 (Note: some reports say 1977). In addition to occasionally joining Neil as a backup singer and her own solo career, Pegi helped her husband found the Bridge School, which is an educational group for kids with very severe verbal and physical disabilities. They also are the force behind the annual Bridge School Benefit concerts. Adorable. The couple have two children together: Ben and Amber.
Alice Cooper and Sheryl Goddard
Shockingly loving rocker Alice Cooper found his Queen of Darkness in the form of ballerina and choreographer Sheryl Goddard way back in March 1976. They met while she performed at his concerts, which she would continue to do from 1975 to 1982. They have three kids: Calico (who has been performing in some of Cooper's shows since 2000), Dash and Sonora Rose.
