Rob Halford To Have Elective Surgery Before New Judas Priest Tour

As Judas Priest gets set to tour behind its first album in six years, the band’s core members — all in their 60s these days — have to deal with the usual age-related maladies.

Frontman Rob Halford, however, has a special issue: an umbilical hernia. Not, he says, because it hurts but because “it looks like the alien just burst forth!”

And so, Halford has resigned himself to surgery. “My doctors always said, ‘We can take care of it,’ and I said, ‘I’ll get around to it,’ Halford tells ABC News Radio. “[The doctor said,] ‘If it’s not giving you any discomfort then you should leave it as it is,’ but it’s not very appealing to look at, is it?”

Halford underwent back surgery last year. “That’s life,” he says. “The wonderful thing about heavy metal music is that it’s immortal. The music is immortal, but the creators are not bestowed with that attribute.”

‘Redeemer of Souls” is due for release on July 15. A world tour is expected thereafter.
