Milwaukee Radio Station Bans Seattle Bands Ahead of NFL Playoff Game

A Milwaukee radio station is refusing to play bands from Seattle in advance of their local favorite Green Bay’s NFC championship match against the Seahawks this weekend.

“To help change the karma and give the Packers all the support they need for Sunday’s big title game, 94.5 the Lake has chosen to ‘Say No to Seattle,’” the station says on its website. That means: “No Nirvana, no Pearl Jam, no Heart, until the Packers beat the Seahawks on Sunday.”

Green Bay is playing for a chance to advance to the Super Bowl. No word yet on whether a broadcast counterpart from Seattle will answer in kind by silencing the Milwaukee-born Steve Miller.

In the meantime, 94.5 has learned the hard way just how extensive this list of musical targets has become over the years. Everyone from Jimi Hendrix and Soundgarden to pop stars like Paul Revere — his Boise-based Raiders initially found success in and around the Seattle scene — boast connections back to their bitter rival’s hometown.

“There’s a wealth of music we’re not playing,” morning host Danny Clayton frankly admits. “It’s been a lot of fun, but it’s amazing how rich your music scene is [in Seattle].”
