Phil Rudd’s Next Court Hearing Scheduled for November

Phil Rudd has pleaded not guilty to violating the conditions of his home detention, with his next hearing scheduled for November.

Stuff.co.nz reports that Rudd appeared in court earlier today, and despite his attorney’s efforts to argue for a case management plea, the prosecution was successful in moving forward with what the judge, perhaps ominously, described as a “relatively straightforward” case.

“The defendant admitted the charge to the police on his arrest,” said prosecutor Anna Pollett. “There’s very strong evidence, and the matter can proceed immediately to a judge alone hearing.”

Following the judge’s decision, Rudd was remanded on bail pending his next court date, which has been set for Nov. 24. Wearing an AC/DC jacket, Rudd passed through a throng of reporters after the hearing, saying he plans to focus on “self-improvement” during the rest of his detention sentence. As you can see in the footage above, he responded to a reporter’s question about whether he’s nervous about his next court appearance by shrugging, “The only thing I’m nervous about is I don’t actually know what’s going on.”

As previously reported, Rudd’s latest legal woes stem from allegations that he violated the terms of his home detention, which was imposed after he pleaded guilty to charges of drug possession and threatening to kill, by possessing or consuming alcohol. When handing down the eight-month detention, which Rudd promptly appealed, the judge warned that any further trouble would likely result in jail time.

Whatever Rudd’s odds may be of escaping a prison sentence, he at least appeared more at ease leaving court than he did the last time he faced the media, when he cursed out and threatened paparazzi stationed outside his home.
