Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ to Get ‘Muppets’ Treatment

The latest ‘Muppets’ movie is out Nov. 23 and the more we learn about the soundtrack, the more we like, especially the fact that Kermit and friends are going to cover Nirvana‘s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit!’

‘Flight of the Conchords’ member Bret McKenzie wrote four original songs, which will also no doubt be awesome, especially when sung by film stars Jason Segel, Amy Adams and Chris Cooper.

While we dig all the 20th anniversary celebrations that surrounded ‘Nevermind,’ the album on which the original song appears, how cool is it to cap off the album’s anniversary year with a Muppetational version?

We’re thinking that even though Kurt Cobain despised the rampant commercialization of his music, he would dig a Muppetized version, delivered by the Muppets Barbershop Quartet.

The soundtrack to ‘The Muppets’ is due out via Walt Disney Records on Nov. 21, according to Billboard.

In the film, Walter, who is the world’s biggest Muppets fan, his brother Gary (played by Segel) and Gary’s girlfriend Mary (played by Amy Adams) enjoy a vacation in Los Angeles when they inadvertently discover that oilman Tex Richman (played by Chris Cooper) plans to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil. Oh no! The bastard!

Once the trio uncovers this dastardly plot, they offer their services to help Kermit reunite the Muppets for a telethon to raise $10 million to save the theater. Will they succeed with their fundraising goal? Head to the multiplex on Nov. 23 to find out! We’ll be there!
