More details have emerged concerning the 20th anniversary reissue of Nirvana's ‘Nevermind’ and fans will likely be pleased with the news.

The new reissue will be available on Sept. 27 in two formats, offering “deluxe” and “super deluxe” editions of the classic release.

The five disc (four CD/one DVD) super deluxe version brings the original remastered album together with the first official release of album producer Butch Vig’s initial mix of ‘Nevermind,’ titled the ‘Devonshire Mixes.’ These mixes were submitted for approval and rejected at the time the album was originally recorded. Eventually, producer Andy Wallace was brought in to mix the version of ‘Nevermind’ that finally made it to public release.

The box set also features Vig’s pre-‘Nevermind’ demos, available for the first time, plus rehearsal recordings of songs like ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit,’ ‘Come As You Are’ and ‘On a Plain.’ Live B-sides and a pair of BBC recordings are among the goodies that round out the audio portion of the set, which will also be available for digital download.

A 90-page book brings together “visual artifacts” from the ‘Nevermind’ period with lots of rarely seen photos and documents. As if that wasn’t enough, the DVD portion of the set really takes it to the top, presenting a Nirvana show recorded on Halloween in 1991 at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle. Transferred from 16mm film with multi-track audio, the show has been enhanced to 1080p high-definition video and 5.1 surround sound. According to the label, it’s the only known Nirvana concert shot on film.

The two CD “deluxe edition” presents an abbreviated version of the set with the remastered album, the B-sides/BBC versions, the ‘Nevermind’ demos and rehearsal recordings. The deluxe edition will also be available on 4 LP 180 gram vinyl. The Paramount show will be available separately as a standalone DVD/Blu-ray release or digital download.

The complete track listing for the 20th anniversary ‘Nevermind’ set is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
