Vivian Campbell is back in the studio with Riverdogs as the band gears up for its fifth LP. Campbell and the group have posted a video update for fans, outlining where things stand with the new album. As you can see above, there aren’t many details in the 18-second clip — just that you’re seeing the band members during their second writing session, and a thank-you to Frontiers, the label behind their new record deal — but the project is reportedly on target for an early 2017 release.

The announcement follows weeks of rumors about a full-fledged Riverdogs reunion. Campbell strongly hinted he’d be returning his attention to the band during a recent interview, saying, “There is another band that I used to be in many, many years ago that I am getting together with next week to start writing for a new record. I can’t mention who it is yet, but it is one of my past projects and we are kind of getting back together and we have been offered a record deal.”

As fans no doubt recall, Campbell joined the band in the late ’80s, but moved on after their first record failed to reach a large audience. He returned to the lineup in 2003, reuniting with the band for a series of sessions that were released in 2011 on their World Gone Mad album.

Although the group has been on the back burner in recent years, it’s maintained an active social media presence in recent months, posting a series of hints about the new LP on Facebook. “You guys are absolutely the best ever,” they wrote in a July 10 update. “So much love and support through all these years and we really appreciate it. We thank you for your patience, and thank you for keeping our music alive and relevant. We will keep you in the loop as news progresses. Cheers to all of you.”
