January is typically the slowest time of year for new-music releases. With the fall and holiday season's big records out of the way (and hopefully in the hands of fans), the first month of the new year is usually seen as the graveyard or dumping ground for records with limited mainstream appeal.

But there are several noteworthy releases coming out over the next four weeks, including the latest album by Bruce Springsteen, 'High Hopes' -- a collection of cover tunes, remakes and outtakes coming out on Jan. 14.

There's also a new Beatles box set (gathering all of their U.S. albums released by Capitol Records), a comprehensive Small Faces box and the first solo album by David Crosby in two decades. Plus, Metallica's big-screen 'Through the Never' movie comes to home video.
