Neil Young stayed away from nudity, didn't offer anything too sexually suggestive or hit on the hot button issue of drugs, so what got his video for 'This Note's for You' banned from MTV? It turns out that Young's anti-commercial track rankled MTV when it hit out at several high profile advertising sponsors, calling them out by name, which led the network to temporarily keep it off the airwaves.

The clip, which made a mockery of several popular commercials of the day, was a hit though on Canada's MuchMusic where it ran unimpeded, and MTV eventually lifted their ban. In fact, the Julien Temple-directed clip would go on to win MTV's Best Video of the Year in 1989.
