Neil Young Rescued by Highway Patrol After Car Breaks Down

Neil Young‘s LincVolt car is a state-of-the-art ride, with a million dollars’ worth of technology under the hood, but even the fanciest vehicles break down sometimes.

The car, a 1959 Lincoln Continental convertible retrofitted with a hybrid engine that relies on a combination of electricity and biomass fuel, is the showpiece of an ongoing nationwide tour to promote clean and sustainable energy — and for the most part, it’s been pretty successful, with Young using the car to make a series of appearances (like the one posted here) where he talks about its potential and the way it was built.

But recently the LincVolt let Neil down. As reported by the South Lake Tahoe Police Watch, the car broke down near Donner Summit on Interstate 80, where Young was found by highway patrol officers operating out of nearby Truckee. After they helped him off the road, Young posed for photos, signed some autographs, repaired the car and got back on his way to what officers referred to as “a green festival in Canada.”

Young was scheduled to appear at a couple of Canadian festivals this summer, including the Greenbelt Harvest Picnic in Ontario on Aug. 31 and the Ottawa Folk Festival on Sept. 4, but bowed out after Crazy Horse guitarist Frank ‘Poncho’ Sampedro broke his hand.
