Dave Hilsden, a do-anything Motorhead assistant who handled engineering and front-of-house sound over a three-decade stint, has died.

Phil Campbell, guitarist with Motorhead since 1984, confirmed the sad news. An age and cause of death for Hilsden, who the band called Hobbsy, have not been confirmed.

"He used to be tour boss, crew boss and accountant," Lemmy, Motorhead's frontman, once said of Hilsden. "It's f--ing incredible. He used to do it all! ... Hobbsy served his time. In fact, we give him a nervous breakdown. He's given his life to us, really."

The band's official statement called Hilsden "a treasure, a unique and wonderful man. He will be sorely missed." Campbell said he "gave 30 years of his life to Motorhead. He was a good guy."

Hilsden also produced Sons of Survival for Doctors of Madness in 1978, and worked sound for Black Sabbath, as well. But a lengthy relationship with Motorhead remains Hilsden's principal legacy. He served as engineer on Motorhead's 2010 album The World Is Ours, and memorably appeared as part of the 2005 concert documentary Stage Fright.

once said. "Lemmy's an amazing guy. That's why I stayed with them so long."
