Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx‘s series of video previews from the upcoming Motley Crue country tribute album continues with a sneak peek at Cassadee Pope‘s version of the band’s ‘The Animal in Me.’

The onetime winner of NBC’s ‘The Voice‘ chose a cut from 2008’s ‘Saints of Los Angeles’ LP, enlisting Cheap Trick singer Robin Zander to help out with the track — and if those all strike you as surprising choices for a 24-year-old rising country star, Neil agrees with you.

“I’m just shocked that somebody found this song,” he admits in the video embedded above. “It’s one of my favorite songs on the ‘Saints’ album, but for someone to go ‘Yeah, I wanna do that song,’ it’s pretty exciting. To hear what they did with it, it’s pretty awesome.”

“She really nailed it,” concurred Sixx, adding, “Zander called me when they were in the studio and he said, ‘Man, it’s amazing seeing Cassadee singing this song, and it’s all like veiled in bondage.’ I didn’t say anything, because the song’s not about bondage. All this stuff about being tied up in bed and all the lovers that you’ve had — the song is actually kind of a love song, about releasing that part of you when you fall in love. It’s like the animal inside of you, all that passion.”

Differing interpretations aside, Sixx admitted that Zander might have a point — and Pope might have some secrets. “Robin heard it as being this bondage song, and when I was listening to it the other day, I was like, ‘It could be.’ So Cassadee, what’s going on?” he laughed. “Something we need to know about?”

Pope’s track, along with Motley Crue covers performed by the Mavericks, Justin Moore, Brantley Gilbert, and others, can be heard in full when ‘Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute to Motley Crue‘ arrives in stores on Aug. 19.
