Nobody kept the beat like Mitch Mitchell. The late Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer would have been 62 on June 9.

Mitchell beat out Aynsley Dunbar for his position within the band, and his jazz pacing served him well on such favorites as 'Third Stone From the Sun,' 'Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)' and 'Manic Depression.'

Though he went on to other projects, his final days were spent honoring the music he did with the guitar god as part of the 'Experience Hendrix' tour in 2008.

Mitch appeared on some of Jimi's top tracks, as referenced in our Top 10 Jimi Hendrix Songs list.
